Daniil Kvyat and Kelly Piquet have officially ended their relationship, according to reports from ESPN F1 and the Russian publication, Sport Express . The 21-year-old Russian, who was demoted to Toro Rosso earlier this season due to poor performances at Red Bull Racing,
first met his now ex-girlfriend when she was just 15 years old. The pair dated for two years before going public with their relationship in July of 2013, and have been together ever since. However, it appears that the young couple has now decided to end their on-again off-again romance.
Kelly Piquet (ex-girlfriend)
It’s over. I don’t know what else to say. Things didn’t work out. We loved each other very much, but he went too far for my liking. This is why we broke up. It was fun while it lasted, but everything must come to an end eventually and there are no hard feelings from my side – I wish him nothing but good things.
It will take time to get over him as I really liked him, but you gotta move on at some point in life... Have a nice day! :) He made so many promises that he never kept, failed to communicate effectively with me and treated me like a servant.
One day I woke up and realised that we were not equals anymore. He had been very distant with me for months now, hardly speaking or even coming home anymore.
The realisation hit me hard: Our relationship was slowly fading away into obscurity and death despite our love remaining strong.
Daniil Kvyat (ex-boyfriend)
Yes, it is true. We’ve split. I want to thank her for being such a great partner during our relationship. It was very unique and special to me, I will never forget it. Of course we’re still going to remain close friends. And yes, she's already moved on with Formula One racer Kevin Magnussen.
I'm happy for them. He's one of the most talented racers in the world, so they'll be great together. But you know what? Life goes on. Let's not dwell on my ex-girlfriend or who I date in the future because that would just be pathetic! I'm gonna go out now with some of my friends from the F1 team and get some food.
The relationship
This past weekend, it was announced that Red Bull driver Kelly Piquet and Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat are splitting. In a statement from Toro Rosso, It is with great regret that we learned of Kelly's decision to leave our team.
We had a wonderful season together last year, reaching new heights at points during the season. The breakup between them surprised many because they seemed like one of F1's most stable relationships, but their breakup did make waves in the Formula 1 world. The two were even dubbed K2 by fans online.
How it all ended
Daniil’s surprise trade from Red Bull to Toro Rosso in May put a strain on their relationship. They had been engaged for two years at that point, but both were still very young: Kelly was 19, Daniil 20.
It’s easy to imagine that all of a sudden being taken away from her fiancé would upset her immensely, especially since they hadn’t known each other long before they started dating. Things continued to get more complicated after Daniil left Formula 1 to race in Formula E instead.
Personal life effects career?
According to sources, driver Kelly Piquet broke up with F1 Russian Daniil Kvyat during a dinner out on Wednesday evening. The pair split shortly after. Sources say that the break-up of Kelly and Daniil's relationship was amicable, but that it caused tension between them in recent races.
With both drivers' future at Scuderia Toro Rosso under a cloud, are you surprised by their breakup? Is a sport like Formula 1 too competitive for relationships to work? Or should personal lives be put aside when at work? Share your thoughts in comments below.
