It’s been one year since the premiere of Umbrella Academy, and fans are ready to dive back into the story of Spaceboy, Kraken, Rumor, Séance, Number Five, The Horror, and Allison Lionel Piggot (aka The Boy).
What exactly happened at the end of Season 2? Will we see more original music from Blue Raspberry? So many questions! Here’s everything we know so far about the third season of Netflix’s hit adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s graphic novel series.
About the Show
Netflix's The Umbrella Academy TV show is set in an alternate universe where 43 infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before.
Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his children to save humanity. In season three, One and his comrades have left behind their lives as superheroes and have been living a normal life.
But when Hargreeves mysteriously dies, they must solve a new mystery that is somehow connected to their former mentor’s demise.
The Cast
The original cast members reprise their roles for season three, including Ellen Page as Vanya; Tom Hopper as Luther; David Castaneda as Diego; Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison; Robert Sheehan as Klaus and Aidan Gallagher returns to play Number Five.
After that casting announcement, it was revealed at NYCC 2018 that singer Mary J. Blige had joined in a recurring role for season three. Will Friedle also returned in a guest role for two episodes of the third season.
And even more recently, at NYCC 2019, it was announced that Maya Hawke is joining in a recurring role alongside Clarke Peters who will appear in five episodes of Umbrella Academy’s new run!
Premiere Date
The show's first season premiered on February 15, 2019. The series was renewed for a second season before it premiered and will premiere in winter 2020. No release date has been announced yet.
It was originally supposed to premiere in 2018 but got pushed back for unknown reasons. You can probably expect it to return around February or March of 2020, though an exact date hasn't been confirmed yet.
Previous Seasons
The Umbrella Academy is based on a comic book series created by Gerard Way, who released a five-issue miniseries called The Umbrella Academy in 2007. A Netflix show developed and debuted an expanded version of that story in 2018, with 10 episodes released over two seasons.
Both seasons are available to stream now. (But if you want to binge as many Web series as possible while they're still up, you may have to wait a little bit.)
How To Watch
You can watch Umbrella Academy on Netflix. The entire first season is currently available, and it'll be followed by a second run of episodes in 2020. This is all according to Variety's report on how Netflix renewed Umbrella Academy for two seasons.
That being said, we know season three will feature 10 episodes (Season 1 had eight, and Season 2 has five). Aside from that, there's not much we know about what lies ahead in terms of plot or characters.
But if you want to stay up-to-date with everything happening with Umbrella Academy, then you're in luck! There are plenty of ways to do so online.
For starters, you can head over to Twitter and follow @TheUmbrellaAcad. Or check out creator Gerard Way's Instagram page here . And finally, don't forget to tune into Comic-Con 2019!
Are There Any Trailers?
Yes! Netflix has released a teaser for Umbrella Academy season 3. The teaser, which you can watch above, teases an ominous threat to our heroes. This makes sense, as actor Tom Hopper (who plays Luther in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) hinted that Umbrella Academy season 2 would make fans excited for season 3 if you liked it.
His comments from November 2018 read, So I'm very excited about working on [season 2] and then also very excited about where we're going to be going with that into another series or another movie, so yeah there's big things ahead. The post-credits scene in season 2 also provided some clues about what's coming next.
